itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Hanoi

We arrive in Hanoi, Vietnam’s bustling capital and one of Southeast Asia’s most captivating cities. With over a thousand years of history, Hanoi has served as the capital of ancient kingdoms, the French colonial administration, and today stands as the vibrant heart of an independent nation. The city charms with its atmospheric streets, colonial architecture, lively neighborhoods, and a flourishing culinary scene.

Upon arrival, we’ll be transferred to our hotel and settle into comfortable twin rooms. In the evening, we’ll gather for a welcome dinner, meet our guides, and officially kick off the adventure.

Meals: Dinner

Day 2: Hanoi – Bac Son (140 km / 5 hours)

Today marks the start of our motorcycle journey. After picking up our bikes in Hanoi, we ride towards Bac Son and the famed “Golden Valley,” where the Bag Gian River winds through endless rice terraces, creating an idyllic landscape.

Bac Son also holds immense historical significance as the birthplace of Vietnam’s armed struggle for independence. We’ll stop for lunch and relaxation at Thao Nguyen Dong Lam, then traverse the Dong Lam Steppe, known as Vietnam’s “Little Mongolia” for its sweeping grasslands. A short climb to Na Lay Peak (about 35 minutes) rewards us with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

Overnight will be a traditional homestay, giving us a first taste of local hospitality.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Bac Son – Ban Gioc (180 km / 6 hours)

We continue north toward the Chinese border at Ban Gioc. Along the way, we’ll discover two natural wonders: the Tiger Cave, a 2 km limestone cave system (1 km accessible) filled with stalactites and stalagmites, and the Nam Tra Waterfalls, some of the largest in Asia, cascading 30 meters down and stretching up to 300 meters wide. Surrounded by green mountains and rice fields, these sites form a truly magical landscape.

We’ll ride through pristine areas of Van Mich and enjoy lunch in Dong Khe. Overnight accommodation will be in homestay twin rooms.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Ban Gioc – Bao Lac (160 km / 6 hours)

Today’s ride takes us to Bao Lac, a region famous for its cave networks. We’ll visit Nguom Ngao Cave or the Ban Gioc Waterfall, then explore the bustling Buffalo Market, where locals from surrounding regions gather to trade livestock—buffalo, cows, goats, and pigs. This market offers a vivid insight into the region’s cultural diversity, with locals dressed in traditional attire.

If time allows, we’ll pass by the scenic Nui Mat Than, known as “God’s Eye Mountain,” distinguished by a circular opening near its peak. After lunch and a refreshing break in Ha Quang, we traverse the Khau Coc Tra, a winding mountain road with 14 hairpin turns over just 2.5 km. We’ll spend the night in Bao Lac, staying in twin rooms at a hotel by the river.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Bao Lac – Dong Van (100 km / 5 hours)

Though shorter in distance, today’s route is visually stunning. If weather permits, we’ll ride towards Meo Vac, home to ethnic minorities such as the H’mong, Tay, Lo Lo, and Dao, each with unique traditions, attire, and language. Living in harmony with the land for centuries, they preserve a communal lifestyle largely lost elsewhere.

Lunch will be in Meo Vac, followed by a ride along the legendary “Happiness Road”, carved by hand through mountains by isolated communities. The road offers access to education, healthcare, and hope, while cutting through dramatic landscapes along the Nho Que River. We’ll also experience a traditional bamboo ferry ride, included in the journey.

Our day ends in the picturesque Dong Van, where we’ll stay overnight in a hotel with twin rooms.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6: Dong Van – Ha Giang (150 km / 5 hours)

We continue our motorcycle journey along an exhilarating route near the Chinese border, passing through Nha Vuong and remote villages where everyday life unfolds before us. This challenging but rewarding ride immerses us in authentic northern Vietnam.

In Ha Giang, we’ll visit Vuong Palace, built in the early 20th century as the center of H’mong leadership. The visit lasts approximately 45 minutes. Overnight will be in homestay twin rooms in this culturally rich region.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7: Ha Giang – Hoang Su Phi (110 km / 4.5 hours)

Today’s ride is shorter and more relaxed. We’ll follow scenic roads to Noong Lake, then continue to Vinh Quang for lunch, before heading toward Hoang Su Phi, famous for its legendary rice terraces known as the “stairway to heaven.”

We’ll have time to unwind in a traditional Red Dao hot bath, a rejuvenating cultural ritual ideal after several days of riding and exploration. Overnight is in homestay twin rooms.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8: Hoang Su Phi – Bac Ha (110 km / 5 hours)

From Hoang Su Phi, we ride through Vinh Quang, stopping for coffee before following a river route to Xin Man, skirting the Chinese border again. After a panoramic viewpoint, we’ll traverse a hill toward Bac Ha, hoping to arrive in time for the famous colorful market—one of northern Vietnam’s most authentic cultural experiences. Locals from surrounding ethnic tribes gather here in traditional attire to trade goods.

We’ll also visit Bac Ha Palace, a blend of Vietnamese and colonial architecture, historically linked to the opium trade. Overnight will be in homestay twin or dormitory rooms in a traditional local house.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 9: Bac Ha – Sa Pa (100 km / 4 hours)

From Bac Ha, we may visit the vibrant Sunday Market (if the day aligns), known for traditional games and horse racing, or ride directly toward Sa Pa via Coc Ly. Arriving early allows us time to explore this enchanting town, nestled beneath Fansipan, the highest mountain in Vietnam. Here we’ll witness misty highland landscapes and visit the Cat Cat village, home to diverse ethnic communities. Overnight is in a hotel with twin rooms.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 10: Sa Pa – Vu Linh (240 km / 7 hours)

We depart early for a scenic ride from Sa Pa to Bao Ha, passing the “Garden of Stones”, a UNESCO-protected limestone formation forming a natural stone labyrinth. After lunch and relaxation at Thac Ba Lake, we continue to Vu Linh, where we’ll enjoy a peaceful boat ride on the lake. Overnight is in homestay dormitory rooms.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 11: Vu Linh – Hanoi (150 km / 4.5 hours)

Our route back to Hanoi follows smaller, charming roads along the Lo River, avoiding the busy highways. We’ll stop at the Victory Monument in Doan Hung, commemorating the Viet Minh’s victory over French colonial forces, before lunch en route. Returning early helps us avoid Hanoi’s rush-hour traffic. Bikes will be returned upon arrival, and we’ll stay overnight in a hotel with twin rooms.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 12: Hanoi – Halong Bay (160 km round trip)

Today we take a day trip to Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its 1,900 tropical islands rising from jade waters. We’ll enjoy a scenic cruise through this unique seascape before returning to Hanoi for overnight in a hotel with twin rooms.

Meals: Breakfast
