Overview
The imposing Taygetos hides countless secrets and an impressive natural landscape and invites you to discover it through its paths. Follow us on a two-day mountain hike in the highest mountain of the Peloponnese.
The whole area is part of the Natura 2000 network, as well as it belongs to the Important Bird Areas of our country. The zone of central Taygetos has been proposed to be included in the National Parks of Greece, as a protected area, with rare species of animals and plants and with landscapes and ecosystems of great interest.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements
Taygetos trail is not a technical hike but a good stamina is an advance. No prior trekking experience is required; however having done some hikes before will still be an asset. It is recommended for participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases to consult their doctor before any hike.

Trek Itinerary
Maganiari spring – refuge house -Taygetos peak.
For the ones located in Athens, we meet at 07.30 at the metro station Doukissis Plakentias (blue line) We will depart at 08.00am towards Sparti . The meeting point for everyone is at the central square of the town at 11.30. After a short briefing for the day’s program we head towards the starting point of our path, at Maganiari spring located at the altitude of 980 m. From this point, starts the main path that we will take and crosses the mountain forest. The first part of todays hike takes about 2 hours to get to Taygetos’ shelter. We will take a rest there, a snack to recover our strengths and we will get ready for the second part of the hiking which is the ultimate goal of the day, the peak of the mountain. (2.407μ.) We hike back to the refuge house to have a dinner and a briefing from the guide about the next day’s plan.

Refuge house – Anavriti village – Mystras Castle
After breakfast we leave from the refuge house at 09.00, for Anavriti village. A beautiful 6-hour hike in the woods. In the village we will have a rest enjoying a greek coffee and later on a lunch.
It is time to take the van and visit the archaeological site of Mistras. Built on the slopes of Taygetus, the Castle of Mystras takes the visitor on a journey in time. A landscape that generously offers an unprecedented cultural experience and awakens the senses. After the visit we return back in Athens.

During this journey we will stay for one night we will stay in the mountain refuge of Taygetus Mt. The accomodation is dormitory style, using bunk beds with shared facilities.

Food and water in Greece
Greek food is absolutely excellent and very healthy. It is a huge part of Greek culture. The colourful Mediterranean diet of tasty dishes alongside a fantastic range of fresh vegetables and salads, the excellent ingredients, the lengthy procedure involved in preparing the food, the culture of sharing dishes with others, eating with friends or with the family, it is social event where you get to share a lot more than just food.
Breakfasts will be taken at the overnight guesthouses, buffet style and usually they offer bred, jam, honey, local yogurt, traditional homemade pies, fresh juices, coffee and tea.
Dinners usually include starters, fresh salad and of course local recipes and delicatessens.
All the places on this trip have drinkable water from the tap to fill your personal water bottles. Please check with the tour leader at the various location
