Argentina is the second-largest country in South America after Brazil, stretching between the Andes Mountains and the South Atlantic Ocean. It covers a total area of 2,780,400 sq. km and has a population of 45,800,000. Its name comes from “argentum” (silver), the precious metal supplied to the first European colonies from the region. The land of tango, also famous for football, its gastronomy featuring what is considered the best beef in the world, its fine wines, and its warm, open-hearted people, is a dream destination. It enchants every traveler with its rich landscapes, vibrant culture, and countless options to suit every taste.

On this journey, we will begin in the capital, Buenos Aires, discovering its cosmopolitan and diverse neighborhoods. We will then travel north to visit the spectacular Iguazú Falls, exploring the Iguazú National Park from both the Argentine and Brazilian sides. Next, we head south to Patagonia, where we will hike in national parks and admire breathtaking mountains and glaciers. We will return to the Buenos Aires region, from where we will visit neighboring Uruguay. Finally, we will enjoy a short cruise on the Paraná River, perfectly concluding this wonderful journey.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Buenos Aires & City Tour

Arrival at Ezeiza International Airport and transfer to Buenos Aires. After check-in at the hotel, we begin our exploration of the city center, visiting the Obelisk, the Presidential Palace, and the Metropolitan Cathedral. In the evening, we enjoy a stroll in Puerto Madero.

Arrival at Ezeiza International Airport and transfer to Buenos Aires, a city considered one of the most beautiful in the world, vibrant with life, artistic expression, tango music, elegant architecture, and lush green parks. After settling into our hotel, we head out for a walk in the Microcentro, the heart of the city, where we will visit the Obelisk, the symbol of Buenos Aires, and the iconic Teatro Colón. We then continue to the Casa Rosada, the Presidential Palace, Plaza de Mayo, and the Metropolitan Cathedral, which houses the mausoleum of General and national hero José de San Martín. Our walk will also include other points of interest in the area. The day concludes with an evening stroll in Puerto Madero, the former port docks that have been transformed into a modern district with stylish skyscrapers, lively bars and restaurants, and the famous Calatrava-designed “Puente de la Mujer” (Woman’s Bridge).

Day 2 – San Telmo & La Boca | Flight to Puerto Iguazú

In the morning, we explore the most bohemian neighborhood of Buenos Aires, San Telmo. We visit the old market, traditional small shops, and enjoy the vibrant artistic atmosphere that fills its streets. We then head to the colorful working-class neighborhood of La Boca, home of the famous football club Boca Juniors—the team of Diego Armando Maradona—where the heart of Argentine tango beats strongly. We stroll along the iconic and much-photographed street of El Caminito and watch tango dancers showcasing their talent.

In the afternoon, we take a domestic flight (approximately 2 hours) from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazú, a town of about 40,000 inhabitants nestled within the lush tropical jungle. Upon arrival, we visit the town center and the Triple Frontier, the point where three countries meet—Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay—as well as the confluence of the Iguazú and Paraná rivers.

Day 3 – Iguazú National Park & Iguazú Falls | Guaraní Village Visit

The day is dedicated to Iguazú National Park and its spectacular waterfalls, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. A total of 275 waterfalls, stretching across 2.7 km with a maximum height of 82 meters and an average annual flow of 6,500 cubic meters per second, create an awe-inspiring natural spectacle and form a natural border between Argentina and Brazil. We will enjoy several panoramic viewpoints of the river and the falls, with the highlight being the impressive “Devil’s Throat.” An optional boat ride on the river beneath the waterfalls is available for those who wish.

In the afternoon, a truly special experience awaits us as we are guided by a local guide through a traditional settlement of the indigenous Guaraní people. For centuries, they have lived in huts within the surrounding jungle and to this day continue to preserve their language, traditions, and way of life.

Day 4 – Iguazú National Park & Iguazú Falls (Brazilian Side)

In the morning, we cross the border into Brazil for a day trip to visit Iguazú National Park once again, this time admiring the waterfalls from a completely different perspective. This side offers sweeping panoramic views of the falls, allowing us to fully appreciate their immense scale and power. An optional helicopter flight over the waterfalls is available for those seeking a truly unforgettable experience.

Afterwards, we will enjoy a walk through the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguaçu. In the afternoon, we return to Argentina and to Puerto Iguazú.

Day 5 – Flight to El Calafate (Patagonia) and Transfer to El Chaltén

In the morning, we depart from Puerto Iguazú and fly to El Calafate in Patagonia (approximately 5.5 hours total), with a connecting stop in Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, we continue by road (around 3.5 hours) across the Patagonian glacial steppe, the natural habitat of guanacos, a species of wild llama, to the village of El Chaltén, known as the hiking capital of Argentina.

In the evening, we will enjoy a walk around this charming mountain village, located at the foothills of the impressive peaks of the Andes, the longest mountain range in the world.

Day 6 – Hike to Laguna de los Tres below Mount Fitz Roy

A full-day hike (20 km, 900 m elevation gain, approximately 9 hours) to Laguna de los Tres, passing through a beautiful forest. This is a hiking route of unparalleled beauty, offering views of the Piedras Blancas Glacier and one of the most iconic and stunning mountains in the world, Mount Fitz Roy, the symbol of Patagonia.

This is the most demanding hike of the trip, as there is a steep ascent shortly before reaching the lagoon. The return follows a different trail, passing by Laguna Capri and other remarkable landscapes.

Day 7 – Hike to Laguna Torre & transfer to El Calafate

A hike (18 km, 540 m elevation gain, approximately 6 hours) to the glacial lake Laguna Torre, where we will admire the small icebergs floating on its surface, with the glacier and the impressive Cerro Torre peak rising in the background. Only a handful of climbers have ever reached this summit, as it is considered by many to be the most difficult climb in the world.

We will return to the village via the same trail, and in the afternoon we will depart by road (approximately 3.5 hours) along the famous Ruta 40 to the town of El Calafate, where we will spend the night.

Day 8 – Visit to Perito Moreno Glacier

Today we will have the privilege of visiting one of nature’s wonders: the impressive Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the largest accessible glaciers in the world. It spans 5 km in width, 30 km in length, and rises 80 m high, covering an area of 250 km². The glacier is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers breathtaking views.

We will explore the specially constructed walkways of the park, totaling 5 km, and enjoy the glacier from different viewpoints. Optional activities include a guided hike on the glacier with specialized equipment or a mini-cruise on the lake adjacent to Perito Moreno. Afterwards, we will return to El Calafate.

Day 9 – Stroll in El Calafate and Flight to Buenos Aires

Today we will have some free time to explore El Calafate, a small and charming town of 6,000 residents located on the shores of Lake Argentino. The turquoise waters of the lake, the largest in Argentina at 1,415 km² with a depth of 500 m, are fed by the surrounding glaciers. From the shores, you can spot a variety of birds, including flamingos, ducks, swans, and coots.

In the afternoon, we will depart El Calafate and fly (approx. 3 hours) back to Buenos Aires. In the evening, we will stroll through Palermo Soho, a vibrant neighborhood full of colors, artistic graffiti, and cobblestone streets, famous for its wide variety of restaurants, bars, and the city’s best pastry shops and gelaterias.

Day 10 – Day Trip to Uruguay: Colonia del Sacramento

In the morning, we will take a ferry to the neighboring country, Uruguay, crossing the Rio de la Plata, the widest river in the world, spanning up to 220 km. We will explore the colonial city of Colonia del Sacramento, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with a local guide.

Founded in 1680 by the Portuguese Manuel Lobo, the city changed hands between Portuguese and Spanish rule several times until the Declaration of Independence in 1825. We will stroll along the cobblestone streets, admire the charming houses, traditional lanterns, and enjoy the magical sunset at El Porton de Campo, near the Street of Sighs and the lighthouse. In the evening, we will return to Buenos Aires.

Day 11 – Mini Cruise in the Paraná Delta and Visit to Recoleta Neighborhood

In the morning, we will take a train from Buenos Aires to the small town of Tigre, arriving in about an hour. From there, we will explore the Paraná River Delta on a wooden boat. In this delta, the waters of the Paraná and Uruguay rivers converge, forming the Rio de la Plata.

Afterwards, we will visit the Recoleta neighborhood, an iconic area of Buenos Aires, home to the historic cemetery of notable Argentine figures, as well as other beautiful historic buildings and museums. The afternoon is free, and in the evening, there is an optional outing to a spectacular tango show with professional dancers.
